At the proposal of Croatian Basketball Federation (HKS) sporting director Krunoslav Simon, the HKS Board has appointed Anadolu Efes assistant coach Tomislav Mijatović as head coach of the Croatian men’s senior national team.
Mijatović began his coaching career in 2001 as an assistant at Cibona and joined Anadolu Efes in 2010 in the same role.
In February 2024, he was promoted to head coach of Efes before returning to an assistant role in January 2025 following the arrival of Luca Banchi.
During his time at the club, he was part of the staff that won two EuroLeague titles (2021, 2022), alongside Kruno Simon, as well as three Turkish league championships and three national cups.
Mijatović has also spent many years as part of the Croatian national team coaching staff, gaining valuable experience within the national system.
“I want to thank everyone at the Croatian Basketball Federation for the great trust they’ve placed in me. It is a tremendous honor, but also a huge responsibility, to be head coach of the Croatian national team. We know that, as always, a demanding road lies ahead — but it’s one that opens the door to the biggest stage. Still, we must remain humble, take things step by step, focus on every possession, and treat every upcoming game as a final. Only by doing that — through unity, a great atmosphere, and an immense desire, will, and love for playing for the national team — can we achieve results that will be a source of pride and honor for us all,” said Mijatović after his appointment.
Croatia will begin its World Cup pre-qualifying campaign in August. The team is in Group D alongside Denmark and Norway.
