Olympiacos Piraeus beat Panathinaikos Athens 99 – 88 on the road to go up 2-1 in the Greek League Finals. It was quite a tense game that featured multiple ejections, including those of Evan Fournier in the third period, along with Kendrick Nunn and Ergin Ataman in the last minute.
Sasha Vezenkov led Olympiacos with 25 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Nikola Milutinov had 17 points plus six rebounds, playing extended minutes after Moustapha Fall exited the game early with an injury. Evan Fournier added 15 points, all of them in the first nine minutes of the second half when Olympiacos went ahead 67 – 74.
In the next play, Fournier stole the ball on an inbounds pass and ran in transition, only to receive an unsportsmanlike foul from Kendrick Nunn during a layup attempt.
The French swingman was agitated by the hard foul, being dropped to the floor with Nunn pulling his jersey down. Olympiacos‘ guard Shaq McKissic had to grab Fournier and restrain him, while Kostas Mitoglou left the bench of Panathinaikos and moved toward the players on the floor.
A possible fight was prevented as tensions began to rise to a dangerous level in OAKA.
Fournier was then ejected after engaging with Panathinaikos fans sitting courtside, making an obscene gesture.

Despite the efforts of Cedi Osman (25 points) and Nunn (25 points), Olympiacos managed to hold an advantage around double figures and went up 75 – 89 with five minutes to play. Panathinaikos didn’t manage to close that gap.
In the last minute, Nunn and Ataman were both ejected after being called with a second technical foul each.
After the game, Panathinaikos announced that the club and the fans who were the target of the gesture will take legal action against Fournier. Olympiacos also announced the intention for legal action against the courtside fans and others who attacked coach Giorgos Bartzokas.
“A jungle”
The game ended with Olympiacos GM Nikos Lepeniotis talking to Greek national television and calling the situation at OAKA “a jungle with things happening against our team that we haven’t seen in years, our bench was attacked by fans”.
According to Lepeniotis, the team was attacked during the game and also on the way out of the arena.
Panathinaikos team manager Savvas Aronis replied: “Things beyond basketball are happening, the state has to take measures”.
Game 4 is scheduled to be played at Olympiacos’ home court on Sunday, in what may be the last episode of a tense series with many off-court happenings, which was on the verge of being canceled.
