Following the Dallas Mavericks forcing the Brooklyn Nets to the fourth loss in a row, Luka Doncic discussed his interactions with referees during NBA games. Similar to a personal target set last season, he pledged to work on reducing protests largely leading to 13 technical fouls in 2019-20. He has been held accountable for 15 more in 2020-21.

“I am complaining way too much,” he admitted in a post-game interview with TNT, “I got to stay calm and not talk to the referees.”

Doncic, 22, elaborated in the post-game press conference.

“I realize it’s something I am not supposed to do,” he added, “Despite all the emotions in games, obviously I got to stop. It’s just hard for me on the court without emotions. It’s tough to do it, but I got to work on this and be way better.”

He ended up with 24 points, held to 7/22 field goals against the Nets. His ten rebounds, eight assists, and two steals helped the Mavericks log a key victory with only six games left in the Regular Season. His team is currently ranked fifth in the Western Conference sitting one win ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers.

The Slovenian star is three years separated from being selected with 3rd pick of the 2018 draft but just turned 22 three months ago. Determined and likely to improve in controlling his emotions and on the court, he savors every single moment.

“I am far from dominating the NBA,” he replied regarding him being an inspiration for younger NBA fans, “I just enjoy every day. I didn’t even imagine being here. So, this feels amazing to me.”

Dallas will be back in action hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers Friday.
