The Cleveland Cavaliers confirm Collin Sexton will not be back during the 2021-22 NBA season

Collin Sexton has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2021-22 NBA Regular Season, the Cleveland Cavaliers announced Friday.

Per the press release:Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton sustained a season-ending left knee injury on Sunday, Nov. 7th at New York, later confirmed on Nov.8 after an MRI administered at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health. Sexton underwent successful surgery on Nov. 17th to repair a meniscus tear after additional evaluation over the past week determined that surgery was the best course of action to treat the affected area. The procedure was performed by Dr. Kyle Hammond at Emory University Sports Medicine Center in Atlanta and his return to basketball activities will be updated as appropriate.”

Sexton, 22, lasted only 11 games with 16.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 0.9 steals per contest, until suffering the season-ending injury. He has made his way to a total of 218 NBA games since being selected with the 8th overall pick of the 2018 draft.

Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio has been inserted in the starting lineup with the former Alabama standout sidelined. He has averaged 17.3 points, 5.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 1.7 steals per contest over the last six games with the Cavs held to a 2-4 run.

Overall, the team coached by J. B. Bickerstaff at 9-8 currently ranks eighth in the Eastern Conference standings.

Following three losses in a row, the Cavaliers will be the hosts of the Brooklyn Nets, Phoenix Suns, and Orlando Magic through the next week to complete a friendly schedule of eight out of nine fixtures at home.
