There was much talk about the Donovan Mitchell – Rudy Gobert dynamic but, whether true or not, that’s all in the past now

Ever since Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell’s quarrel at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, their relationship has been under the watchful eye of the public and it also translated into the 2021-22 season, as well as the ongoing playoffs.

Mitchell was passing 2.7 times on average to Gobert this season and many took that as proof that the duo hasn’t yet healed all their wounds and just weren’t in a good place chemistry-wise.

However, the game-winning alley-oop by Mitchell to Gobert in Game 4 against Dallas seems to have changed that narrative. Even more so the chest bump the two displayed to celebrate at half court.

“It’s poetic justice in a way. It’s a play that we’ve made many times. It just happened to be the game-winning play tonight,” Gobert said.

Another interesting fact is that this was the first game-tying or go-ahead assist by Mitchell to Gobert in all 345 games they’ve played together so far.

Mitchell was very happy that the game-winning combo happened and hopes the narrative will change going forward, noting that they did have an ear for it.

“It feels good, because it’s just like, man, you hear it. I don’t think him and I sit here think there’s anything, but we hear it. It’s good to see that and be able to go out there and do it on a stage like that, but ultimately, those same plays we made throughout the entire game. We trust each other, we feel each other and we’re out there continuously making good plays. It felt good. It’s good to trust, that’s all it is.”
