The Los Angeles Lakers have officially rescinded the trade for Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams.

While the Lakers haven’t clarified the reasons why they canceled the deal, ESPN reports that Williams failed the the physical exam that showed “multiple issues.” It’s also reported that these issues are unrelated to the player’s back which was a concern due to his season-ending back contussion on December 2023.

The Lakers had agreed to send Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2030 pick swap and a 2031 first-round pick for Williams with the goal of boosting their frontline.

While Williams won’t be earing the Lakers’ jersey , the Hornets welcomed him back in a statement.

“After the other team aggressively pursued Mark, we made the difficult decision to move him,” the Hornets said. “We have always held great respect for Mark’s talent, work ethic, and character. We are thrilled to see him rejoin our roster as a dynamic presence at the starting center position. His return strengthens our team, and we look forward to the impact he will make on and off the court.

Williams is averaging 15.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 blocks in the 2024-25 so far.
