Luka Doncic’s trade from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers will be remembered as one of the most shocking moves of all time in the NBA. Even for its direct protagonists.
The Slovenian phenomenon was interviewed by Malika Andrews on ESPN and recalled the night he found out about such a shockingly surprising event, eventually also breaking his phone by throwing it on the floor. “I was actually in my bed, my TV wasn’t working, so I was about to go to sleep,” he said.
When asked about what he was feeling, he kept it clear. “Sadness, mostly. I was still in shock, crazy shock. I felt like my heart was broken, honestly,” the former Dallas player recalled.
Asked about the apparent reasons behind the trade, Luka Doncic said he doesn’t really care. “It’s painful, depending on how you take it. Mostly, it came from Dallas, and I didn’t want to talk back. I don’t really read that much stuff, I just focus on my journey,” he commented.
“It’s sad the way [Nico Harrison]’s talking right now, I never said anything bad about him. I just want to move on. It’s time for me to move on from there.”
Finally, he was asked about the 45-point night against his former team, ranking it as the best one among his all-time performances. “It was so special, with the fans, teammates,” he opened.
“Just being there, it was something I’ve never seen in my life. Just special, the love between me and my fans,” he said about his long-awaited and emotional return to Dallas.
Would Luka Doncic have retired with the Dallas Mavericks? “Of course, it’s an easy question,” he ultimately answered. He also said he wants to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers now.
