The MVP race for the 2024–25 NBA season officially came down to three names: Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Brooklyn Nets guard D’Angelo Russell believes the Serbian center of the Denver Nuggets deserves the honor.
“Jokic is going to win MVP. He should be going on, like, his fifth MVP right now. And it is what it is. That’s where I’m standing,” Russell said on the Backyard Podcast.
He also praised Oklahoma City Thunder‘s Gilgeous-Alexander for an amazing season.
“We’re going to hold on all of that, because Shai—flowers, brother—I ain’t taking nothing from you. But like, we can’t just keep looking over dude.”
Despite naming Jokic his MVP, Russell still sees the LA Clippers beating the Nuggets in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
“Jokic is the best player in the world. I can’t bet against him, but if Kawhi and James do what they’ve been doing all season, there’s no way they lose,” Russell concluded.
