A busy offseason ahead for Luka Doncic. Beyond representing Slovenia in the EuroBasket 2025, the schedule might also include penning a contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers.
His current contract lasts through the 2025-26 season with a player option for the 2026-27. However, he is likely to commit his future to the storied franchise this summer, per Tim MacMahon of ESPN.
The 26-year-old Slovenian superstar did not directly address his contract following the exit from the 2025 NBA Playoffs presented by Google, but he indeed seemed keen on focusing on the Lakers.
“I’m really glad I am here. I had a great couple of months. I am still trying to learn about everything, about the city, about the team. I am just trying to process everything,” he said in a postgame press conference following the season-ending losing effort against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The latest update reportedly labeled the explosive guard as fully committed to the Lakers, setting his sights on becoming an NBA champion.
Set to make 46 million dollars next season alongside a player option worth nearly 49 million dollars, based on a deal with the Dallas Mavericks in 2021, the native of Ljubljana can sign a four-year, 229 million dollars contract extension during the offseason.
Over 33 games played with the Lakers between the 2024-25 Regular Season and the opening round of the Playoffs, following a midseason trade, he tallied 28.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per contest.
