The Dallas Mavericks, Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Los Angeles Clippers have been reported as possible trade destinations for 40-year-old LeBron James.
The latest update was delivered by sportswriter and NBA insider Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson on Sunday.
However, the situation remains unclear, since the four-time NBA champion has yet to formally request a trade, despite constant rumors and reports. Moreover, his contract includes a no-trade clause, which means he must agree to any potential agreement between the Los Angeles Lakers and another NBA team.
Those teams emerge as natural next steps, if the native of Akron indeed demands a trade before the start of the 2025-26 NBA Regular Season.
Using a player option worth nearly $53 million, LeBron extended his contract until the next offseason. Despite the new commitment to the Lakers, ensuing public comments by his agent, Rich Paul, eventually attracted early contact by four teams looking to reach a deal with the Lakers to secure his services in the event of a trade request.
The next campaign will be the 23rd in this career. Whether it will also be his eighth with the Lakers and the first complete year alongside Slovenian Luka Doncic is widely considered questionable, relatively deep into the offseason.
The 2024-25 journey concluded with 24.5 points, 8.0 assists, 7.9 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game over 75 appearances until elimination from the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Quarterfinals of the 2025 NBA Playoffs presented by Google.
