The Los Angeles Lakers have locked in their franchise star, as Luka Dončić has agreed to a three-year, $165 million maximum contract extension, according to Shams Charania.
The deal includes a player option for the 2028 season, ensuring the Slovenian superstar remains in purple and gold for the foreseeable future.
“I just signed my extension with the Lakers. Excited to keep working to bring championships to LA and make Laker Nation proud. Grateful to the Lakers, my teammates and all the fans who’ve shown so much love since day one. This is just the beginning,” Dončić confirmed the extension on social media.
By securing this agreement, Dončić will bypass free agency next summer and continue leading the Lakers’ charge in the Western Conference. The timing of the deal also positions him for a potential five-year, $417 million supermax extension in 2028 — a figure that would break NBA records if projections hold.
Six months after a blockbuster trade from the Dallas Mavericks, Luka committed his future to the Lakers and also decided to help young athletes around the world.
“Today I’m committing $5 million to help 77 young athletes around the world chase their dreams, just like I did. Basketball gave me everything, and I’m lucky to be able to give back and help the next generation,” Slovenian superstar wrote on social media.
