At 40 years old and turning 41 midway through his 23rd NBA season, LeBron James is nearing the end of a legendary career, obviously. However, extending his relationship to basketball through a coaching career in the future is extremely unlikely.
During a summer trip to China, he reaffirmed his zero interest in becoming a coach.
“No, no, no, no coaching for me. No, no, no. I was inspired by the game. I love the game, but I don’t have coaching in my future,” he mentioned in an interview with CGTN Sports Scene, rejecting such a possibility once more.
With coaching out of the picture, James can stick around on another role, more likely to attached to the some kind of ownership situation, either by staying in the NBA or moving on to a new international league, with the former linked to a recent Eurohoops report about his longtime business partner Maverick Carter, agent Misko Raznatovic, and himself recently meeting in France.
Nevertheless, the four-time NBA champion is heading to the 2025-26 season, his eighth with the Los Angeles Lakers and first complete campaign alongside Slovenian superstar Luka Doncic. Speculation about his future with the storied organization has been among the main offseason themes, but he is expected to strengthen a championship bid for the team coached by JJ Redick.
After using a $52.6 million player option, James extended his contract through the next season during the offseason but will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
