Shaquille O’Neal has never been shy about calling himself one of the greatest centers in NBA history.
Still, the Lakers legend didn’t hesitate to acknowledge a modern star who, in his eyes, might have reached an even higher level.
“We’re different players, but I’ll probably have to say Giannis. The game has evolved from when I played. That’s what you want. You want evolution in the game,” O’Neal said when asked to compare himself with Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo in their prime.
Antetokounmpo is off to a blistering start this season, looking every bit the dominant force O’Neal once was. Over his first three outings, he’s averaging 36.3 points and 14.0 rebounds, powering Milwaukee’s strong opening run.
Against the New York Knicks on Tuesday night, Giannis put up 37 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, one steal, and two blocks, showing once again why he’s among the league’s elite.
