Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has been suspended for one game for conduct detrimental to the team following Friday night’s 117–112 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The suspension came after Grizzlies head coach Tuomas Iisalo challenged Morant on his leadership and effort in a postgame exchange. Morant responded in a tone deemed inappropriate by the team, according to Shams Charania.
After the game, Morant made clear where he believed the breakdown occurred.
“Go ask the coaching staff,” Morant said, adding what could have been done better: “According to (the coaching staff), probably don’t play me.”
Morant logged 31 minutes but managed just eight points on 3-of-14 shooting, missing all six of his three-point attempts. Despite recording seven assists, it was his first game of the season failing to reach double digits.
