During the Los Angeles Lakers’ win over the Chicago Bulls, the young Chicago forward exchanged words with Luka Dončić in the second quarter — and it quickly backfired.
The Slovenian superstar responded with a scoring explosion, later admitting that the moment helped fuel one of the best performances of his season.
“It always feels special. I obviously haven’t had a 50-point game in a year, so it was very special. In the second quarter I kind of felt it. Somebody started talking to me, so that woke me up,” Doncic said.
Dončić did not want to reveal exactly what Buzelis said during the exchange, joking that repeating it would likely earn him a technical foul.
“I would say that I would definitely get a tech,” Dončić said with a smile.
Buzelis, for his part, was honest about how the interaction played out — and admitted that provoking Dončić might not have been the best decision.
“What was my take? I don’t even know what to say, honestly. He started killing obviously when I started talking to him.”
Asked what he learned from the experience, the Bulls forward gave a simple and humorous answer:
“Probably not to talk to him.”
In the end, a few words were enough to wake up one of the NBA’s most dangerous scorers — and Buzelis quickly learned why talking to Dončić can sometimes come with consequences.
