Demanding premium draft capital and matching roster pieces, the Sacramento Kings seem ready to explore trade options surrounding 30-year-old Domantas Sabonis

The Sacramento Kings are considered likely to explore roster moves this summer, heading to the 2026-27 NBA Regular Season, by attempting to offload heavy veteran contracts, as reported by insider James Ham on Thursday.

While several established players could face relocation, three-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis possesses the franchise’s highest market value and remains their primary bargaining chip, as noted. The California organization would be looking for premium compensation, specifically seeking a trade package centered around a minimum of one first-round draft selection alongside impactful matching rotation pieces.

The latest surge in trade speculation succeeds a highly disappointing 2025-26 Regular Season for the Lithuanian forward/center, who participated in only 19 contests before a torn left knee meniscus requiring surgical correction in February. Even with this massive setback, the 30-year-old delivered robust statistics during his limited appearances, registering 15.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game.

Suitors across the league view the ten-year veteran as a skilled big, making him an extremely desirable centerpiece despite a lucrative financial commitment. Sabonis is scheduled to earn 45.4 million dollars during the 2026–27 season, followed by an escalation to 48.6 million dollars for the subsequent 2027-28 stretch.

Confronted with these escalating projections during his end-of-season press conference before the summer break, Sabonis completely dismissed chatter regarding his future.

Furthermore, his upcoming months will be entirely clear of international commitments, as he was left off the preliminary roster for the upcoming FIBA windows with the FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
