Luka Doncic marked his official return to action by guiding the Los Angeles Lakers to victory in their opening night for the 2026–27 NBA Regular Season.
The Slovenian superstar guard took center stage at the microphone before Wednesday’s game. Following the winning effort, he opened up about his deep bond with the fan base and the simple joy of competing when it matters most.
“We want the support from fans,” he explained. “I know they work hard to get to the games, to get to the arena. So, I always had something in me that tells me I need to have that connection with the fans. So, trying to welcome them to the new season, and let them know that we really appreciate their support.”
Now serving as the centerpiece of the team, Doncic acknowledged the weight of his new role. “It’s one of the biggest organizations in the world, if not the biggest,” he stated. “So, it’s a very big honor just to be the face of this franchise. And I hope I can stay here long.”
Ultimately, the night was about the baseline happiness of being healthy. The crowd clearly re-energized him. “I couldn’t wait for this day to come,” he admitted. “Preseason is a different thing. You play games, but obviously when the Regular Season starts, it’s a lot of fun. And I’m just happy to be back on court playing.”
The Lakers resume action on Friday, hosting the Los Angeles Clippers in crypto.com Arena.
