Following a disappointing opener in the 2026–27 NBA Regular Season against the Charlotte Hornets at Barclays Center on Wednesday, Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin evaluated his play and outlined the adjustments needed to elevate his game.
“Not very good. I’m not very happy with how I ended up playing the game,” the 20-year-old Russian combo guard recapped during his postgame media session, expressing clear dissatisfaction with his individual execution. “I started with two scored buckets. But then it kind of just got slower from a standpoint of my intensity.”
In nearly 27 minutes, the eighth overall draft pick in 2025 managed just four points on 2-of-10 shooting, struggling from beyond the arc. “I missed every single shot from the three. Some shots that I believe were supposed to go in, but it happens. Obviously, it’s a game. Getting downhill again, I got to get better at finishing. Because the situations are there, opportunities are there, everything is given to me. And I just got to be able to execute on the level that I want to be at,” he said.
To bounce back from his 0-for-5 perimeter display, Demin vowed to increase his effort and leadership. “I definitely got to bring a higher energy, whether I’m on the ball, off the ball, in a corner, wherever I am, whatever position I’m playing. Especially when I’m on the bench, being able to be more vocal and not just focus on what’s not getting done, but what I can do better, right? And how can I help the team even if my game is not growing on a certain level,” he explained.
“I’m going to be back to the gym as soon as I can, as soon as possible, and be working on these things,” he promised, with the team coached by Spanish Jordi Fernandez heading into a weekend back-to-back against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Arena and the Indiana Pacers at Barclays Center.
