A crucial week is coming for the NBA Europe project, according to various reports from all around Europe and information acquired from Eurohoops sources.

As Sky Sports reported, a meeting is expected in London, where the Ballon d’Or ceremony will be held on Monday.

According to the British report, PSG, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid are expected to be part of the meeting, but Catalan newspaper “Sport” reveals that Barcelona and Bayern will not be part of the meeting.

Various sources have confirmed to EuroLeague that Barcelona and Bayern are keeping a firm stance, aligned with the decision taken in Como by the EuroLeague owners; on the other hand, Real Madrid seems to be the EuroLeague club more inclined to continue a dialogue with the NBA.

The numbers of the offer

The negative stance of the EuroLeague clubs can be explained by the numbers presented by “Sport”.

According to the report, the total offer to the EuroLeague shareholders was 520M euros; however, they also had to pay 400M euros each as a participation fee to the new project. Essentially, the EuroLeague clubs got only a discount on the minimum half-million bid that the NBA has set for participation in the new league.

Per Sport, the explanation for Real Madrid’s stance lies in the similarities that the NBA project bears to the now-abandoned football SuperLeague plan, which was heavily endorsed by the Spanish club.
