Lakers to hire Frank Vogel as head coach, Jason Kidd as assistant

The Los Angeles Lakers completed deals for their next head coach and for his top assistant as well.

Frank Vogel will take over the Los Angeles Lakers according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The report relays that the 45-year-old American agreed to terms on a three-year contract. Jason Kidd will join Vogel’s staff as an assistant coach.

Vogel has been the head coach of the Indiana Pacers and the Orlando Magic making his teams known for their effective defensive play on the court. He led his first team to the NBA Playoffs in five out of his six seasons, but missed out in 2015, in 2017 and 2018 with the Magic as well. As an NBA head coach, he has a 335-321 W-L record.

Kidd is a former head coach of the Brooklyn Nets and the Milwaukee Bucks with a 192-205 W-L record. He made it to the NBA Playoffs in 2014 with his first team, before leading the Bucks into the postseason in 2015 and 2017. The 46-year-old American also has a strong relationship with LeBron James.
