The reported reason behind AS Monaco suspending leading player Mike James includes a scuffle at a restaurant

By Johnny Askounis/ info@eurohoops.net

Reacting to the decision of AS Monaco to suspend Mike James, French outlet L’Equipe reported on the reason leading the 34-year-old guard to the sidelines. The update revealed an incident off the court, with James involved in a scuffle in a restaurant and insulting police officers.

La Roca Team initially fell shy of officially naming the reason, noting required further investigation. “Mike James has been temporarily and precautionarily suspended due to a violation of the club’s internal regulations, requiring further investigations and the collection of explanations from the individual concerned. As a result, Mike James is currently separated from all activities related to AS Monaco Basket,” was explained in the press release on Monday.

With James dealing with a hand injury, the team coached by Vassilis Spanoulis bounced back from second place in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four 2025 by edging out Le Mans in a best-of-three series of the Quarterfinals of the Betclic Elite Playoffs 2025. A best-of-five series against LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne in the Semifinals tips off in LDLC Arena on Tuesday evening.
