Fenerbahce secured their third consecutive Turkish Cup title after defeating Beşiktaş 91-74 in the final.
After the match Dusan Alimpijevic, Beşiktas’ coach, voiced clear dissatisfaction with the officiating.
In his immediate post-game statement, he highlighted the huge disparity in free throws attempted and that his best players got into foul trouble too easily.
“I feel terrible. First of all, Fenerbahce is the leader of the EuroLeague. They are truly a great team, they have a great coach. They are the reigning EuroLeague champions and we have great respect for Fenerbahce. Still, I can no longer accept this. Yes, everyone will say, ‘Coach, the game ended with a 17-point difference,’ but we had 6 free throws in the first half and 8 in the second half. Meanwhile, Fenerbahce had 30 or so free throws. Dotson received five fouls, Jonah got 3 fouls early. Who are we going to play with? So what 17 points are we talking about? Yes, the game ended with a 17-point difference. Fenerbahçe is a better team than us, I congratulate them. Still, let us play! You don’t need to be a coach in the Turkish League to see this, I can see it while watching the games on TV. Who knows how many times this has happened?”
