The Turkish Basketball Federation has sanctioned Anadolu Efes with a -3 points penalty in the championship of the upcoming season along with a fine of 70.000 liras (about 17.600 euros) for causing a six-minute interruption in Game 3 of the semifinals against Besiktas.

Essentially, the team will begin the next season of the Turkish Basketball Super League with a handicap of three lost games. Such punishment is unprecedented in the history of the league.

Furthermore, club president Tuncay Ozilhan and General Manager Alper Yilmaz were suspended from Turkish League games for a period of four months. They were also fined with 40.000 liras (10.000 euros) each for “inappropriate behavior”.

During the incident in question, the players and staff of Anadolu Efes left the court for six minutes and went to the locker rooms during Game 3 of the semifinal series against Besiktas, protesting for some certain decisions of the referees.
