Zenit Saint Petersburg has officially appointed Duško Ivanović as its new head coach, signing the 68-year-old Montenegrin to a deal running through the end of the 2028-29 season.
Ivanović returns to Russia for the first time since coaching Khimki during the 2016-17 campaign, when he led the club to the VTB United League Finals.
One of the most accomplished coaches in European basketball, Ivanović has previously been in charge of Baskonia, Barcelona, Panathinaikos, Beşiktaş, Crvena zvezda, and Virtus Bologna, while also coaching the national teams of Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
His résumé includes league titles in Spain, France, Italy, Serbia, and Switzerland, as well as a Korac Cup triumph and two EuroLeague Final appearances.
Interestingly, Ivanović also has a connection to one of Zenit’s most successful coaches. Between 2005 and 2008, while he was in charge of Barcelona, Xavi Pascual served as his assistant before eventually succeeding him and later taking over Zenit.
