Yıllar geçse de durmak bilmeyen LeBron James, bu sonbaharda 22. NBA sezonuna başlayacak ve 41 yaşına ulaşacak. Bu eşik, onu NBA’in en zorlu rekabetinde 40’lı yaşlarında sahada kalabilen çok özel bir oyuncu grubuna dahil ediyor.

Nat Hickey – 45 yaş, 363 gün

In 1948, Nat Hickey was the coach of the Providence Steamrollers of the BAA, a league that would become the precursor to today's NBA. On January 28, in a game against the New York Knicks, Hickey decided to enter the court in the final minutes of the first half to try to help his team come back. The Steamrollers ultimately fell to the Knicks 75-71, but Hickey managed to enter the history books as the oldest player to compete in the world's major basketball league.

Kevin Willis – 44 yaş, 224 gün

In 1984, the Atlanta Hawks selected Kevin Willis, a powerful center from Michigan State University, with the 11th pick in the draft. For 20 seasons, he represented the Hawks, Heat, Warriors, Rockets, Raptors, Nuggets, and Spurs. This longevity earned him the title of one of only 15 players in history to reach 16,000 points and 11,000 rebounds. In 2005, he ended his contract with the Hawks at age 42, but two years later, he returned to the league in April 2007, signing a 10-day contract with the Dallas Mavericks, with whom he played five regular-season games, becoming the second-oldest player to play in an NBA game.
1984 NBA Draftı’nda Atlanta Hawks tarafından 11. sıradan seçilen Kevin Willis, 20 sezon boyunca Hawks, Heat, Warriors, Rockets, Raptors, Nuggets ve Spurs formaları giydi. 16.000 sayı ve 11.000 ribaund barajını geçen 15 oyuncudan biri olan Willis, 2005’te Hawks ile sözleşmesini tamamladıktan sonra 2007’de Dallas Mavericks ile 10 günlük kontrat imzalayıp 5 normal sezon maçına çıkarak NBA tarihinde forma giyen en yaşlı ikinci oyuncu oldu.

Robert Parish – 43 yaş, 254 gün

When it comes to NBA longevity, Robert Parish is the name of the game. Drafted in 1976 by the Golden State Warriors, Parish played for 21 consecutive seasons in the league, becoming the player with the most appearances in history with 1,611 games. During his long career, he was selected to the NBA All-Star team nine times and won four championships, three with Larry Bird and Kevin McHale for the Celtics and another in 1997 alongside Michael Jordan for the Chicago Bulls.
NBA tarihinin en çok maça çıkan ismi olan Robert Parish, 1976’da Golden State Warriors tarafından draft edildi ve 21 sezon boyunca kesintisiz NBA’de forma giydi. 9 kez All-Star seçilen Parish, Larry Bird ve Kevin McHale ile Celtics formasıyla 3, Michael Jordan ile Bulls formasıyla 1 şampiyonluk kazandı.

Vince Carter – 43 yaş, 37 gün

In 1998, the Toronto Raptors drafted Vince Carter on draft night, launching the career of one of the most impressive players to ever grace the NBA court. "Vinsanity" competed in the league for 22 seasons, still the longest career span in NBA history. During his career, Vince was selected to the All-Star Game eight times and was named to the NBA All-Star Team twice. Perhaps the most memorable moment of his career was his victory in the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest, which left us with unforgettable memories in the history of the league.

Udonis Haslem – 42 yaş, 363 gün

In the summer of 2003, the Miami Heat signed Udonis Haslem, a 23-year-old free agent who had played professional basketball in France and trained at the University of Florida. Twenty years later, Udonis retired as one of the greatest legends in Heat history, winning three titles with the franchise but, even more importantly, being the greatest exponent of the "heat culture" that the Florida team is so proud of. On June 9, 2023, Haslem played the final 30 seconds of Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Denver Nuggets, becoming the fifth-oldest player in league history and the oldest in NBA Finals history.

Dikembe Mutombo – 42 yaş, 300 gün

To talk about Mutombo is to talk about one of the best defenders in the history of the league. Proof of this are his four Defender of the Year awards, as well as his seven appearances on the league's All-Defensive Teams. After 18 seasons, in the first round of the 2009 playoffs, Mutombo would take the court for the final time in Game 2 of the series against the Portland Trail Blazers. During the game, he collided with Blazers center Greg Oden, causing a serious injury to his already battered knee, thus sealing the career of one of the greatest shot-blockers in the history of basketball.
NBA tarihinin en iyi savunmacılarından biri olan Mutombo, 4 kez Yılın Savunmacısı seçildi ve 7 kez All-Defensive takımlarına seçildi. 18 sezon süren kariyeri, 2009 playofflarında Greg Oden ile çarpışması sonrası yaşadığı diz sakatlığıyla sona erdi. Mutombo, NBA tarihinin en korkulan blokçularından biri olarak hafızalara kazındı.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – 42 yaş, 6 gün

Six NBA championships, six league MVPs, 19 All-Star games, and 15 All-Star teams. These are just a few of the career achievements of one of the greatest players of all time. Such was Kareem's greatness that he can afford to say his last game in the league was in the NBA Finals. Sadly, injuries to Magic Johnson and Byron Scott were crucial in the series that the Detroit Pistons ultimately won from the "Bad Boys."

Bob Cousy – 41 yaş, 150 gün

From a Lakers legend to a Celtics legend. Cousy and Bill Russell's Celtics were a killing machine during the 1950s and 1960s, winning 11 titles between 1956 and 1969. Cousy would be part of the first six, retiring at 34 after playing 13 seasons, being an All-Star in each one and winning the MVP in 1957. However, after six years of retirement, Cousy would return to the league at 41 to play seven games with the Cincinnati Royals, a team of which Bob himself was the coach.
Bill Russell ile birlikte Celtics hanedanlığının temel taşlarından biri olan Cousy, 13 sezonda 6 şampiyonluk kazandı ve her sezon All-Star seçildi. 34 yaşında emekli olduktan sonra 6 yıl boyunca sahalardan uzak kalan Cousy, koçluk yaptığı Cincinnati Royals’ın formasını 7 maçlığına yeniden giyerek dönüş yaptı.
