The president of the French Basketball Federation, Jean-Pierre Hunckler, recently announced that, barring any physical setbacks, Victor Wembanyama will play for France at the 2025 EuroBasket.
However, Rudy Gobert is still not certain whether he will join the French national team for the continental competition this summer.
“I haven’t made a decision yet. It will depend on the season, my body, my health, and all that… We’ll see. There are actually a lot of factors. It’s true that I also just had a baby who’s 9 months old now. All of that has to be taken into account. We’ll see by the end of the season,” Gobert said during a beIN Sports interview, BeBasket reports.
France is yet to officially qualify for the 2025 EuroBasket, but it’s on the right track to do so in the February FIBA window. Frédéric Fauthoux’s team is set to face Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (both at 2-2) after four victories in as many matches during the first two windows.
The four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year has already won six medals with Les Bleus, most recently taking silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
This season, the Minnesota Timberwolves center is averaging 10.5 points and 10.2 rebounds in 49 NBA regular season appearances.
