Wenyen Gabriel was released from Panathinaikos Aktor on Thursday and is expected to join fellow EuroLeague outfit FC Bayern Munich.

Previewing his departure and the Greens opting against using a team option on his contract, Eurohoops reported on the 28-year-old big being in advanced talks with the German club.

The South Sudanese center started the 2024-25 expedition with Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv, after penning a two-year contract in July. After recovering from a knee injury in the preseason, he debuted in Europe’s premier club continental competition in early November. After nine games played, he moved to Panathinaikos in December, with the team coached by Ergin Ataman seeking additional options in the paint after several injury setbacks, including Mathias Lessort. In 32 appearances between both teams, he tallied 6.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, 0.9 blocks, 0.7 assists, and 0.6 steals per contest.

Despite going undrafted in 2018, the former Kentucky standout previously made his way to 164 NBA games, between the Los Angeles Lakers, Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Brooklyn Nets. Following a stint with the Bayamon Vaqueros in Puerto Rico in the 2024 edition of Baloncesto Superior Nacional, he switched his focus to the EuroLeague.

Representing South Sudan, his international career is highlighted by his showings in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games producing 5.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. He also suited up in the FIBA World Cup 2023 and the Qualifiers of the FIBA AfroBasket 2025.
