Khimki Moscow sets eyes on Top 4

Alexey Shved and Anthony Gill led Khimki past Panathinaikos at home and the home court advantage looks really close for the Russian team.

In what was a battle between two teams who have their eyes set on the top-4, Khimki Moscow Region easily defeated Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens 78-61.

Khimki was on a mission tonight. In the first twenty minutes of the contest, the Russian side build a 15-point lead (46-31), playing really well on both ends of the court, making 9/11 free-throws, while forcing ‘Pana’ to shoot just 32% from the field. Shved and Gill led their team to a 20-point lead (55-35) in the third period. Since then Bartzokas’ squad did not look back and the lead remained in double-digit territory until the final buzzer.

The 29-year old Shved, scored 20 points (8/18), as he also reached a unique feat while Anthony Gill added 16 scoring an incredible half-court buzzer beater shot to end the third quarter. Tyler Honeycutt was also effective as he flirted with a double-double (9p. / 10r.) In addition, Thomas Robinson returned to action tonight after his injury and played five minutes.

On the other hand, Mike James was a starter on his return to Panathinaikos and he finished with 11 points and 5 assists. Adreian Payne also made his debut for the Greek team scoring two points.

Khimki started the game off with a 14-6 run forcing coach Pascual to call a time-out. In the second period, the home side increased this lead to double-digits (44-30).

Khimki and Panathinaikos are now tied with a 14-9 record but PAO has the tie-breaker with the 28-point win in Athens.
