The 2021-22 Basketball Champions League has tipped off this week with quite a few interesting matchups. All 16 games were played out and the action didn’t disappoint.
Starting with the newly added Monday Game of the Week between the back-to-back champions San Pablo Burgos and Besiktas. The champs got the win and it was thanks to the outstanding Vitor Benite who registered 27 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter.
And while there were many close and exciting clashes, it was individual performances that decided them and stole the spotlight. The perfect example being the reigning MVP Bonzie Colson’s 22 points for Pinar Karsiyaka against Hapoel Jerusalem, a squad stacked with former NBA players. Colson also banked in some thought shots including the game-winner in the final second.
Aleksa Radanov was also big down the stretch for Igokea against PAOK as they made an upset with a 10-0 run sparked by Radanov’s triple.
Meanwhile, Melo Trimble put on a show against Nymburk with 33 points for Galatasaray‘s win and Sasu Salin did the same for Tenerife with 33 against a very ambitious debutant Prometey.
That said, Aaron Doornekamp was the one to hit the game-winning triple for the Spaniards. A game-winner was also seen in France as SIG Strasbourg stole the win thanks to Matt Mitchell’s put-back dunk with 1.4 seconds left to play.
A very interesting thing was seen in Italy where Brindisi lost heavily to Hapoel Holon. Due to such a poor display, the club president decided to re-invite the fans who were present and allow them free entry to the next clash.
