Confirming a Eurohoops report, Oren Amiel was named head coach of ERA Nymburk.
The Czech champions officially welcomed back the 53-year-old Israeli tactician on Tuesday.
Replacing Francesco Tabellini, Amiel signed a two-year contract.
“After we accepted coach Tabellini’s request to be released from his contract, the main priority was to find the most suitable successor. We had a lot of offers from agents, including interesting names, but our first choice was Oren Amiel. It was a bet on a proven card,” said general manager Ladislav Sokolovsky, walking through the search for the next head coach.
“We know Oren very well,” he added, “We know what to expect from each other. In addition, he has a good relationship with our players and has been very successful with our team in the past. Now he has gained additional experience in Germany and Japan.”
Amiel coached the Czech side between 2017 and 2021 and was named Basketball Champions League Best Coach of the 2019-20 season. He previously served as an assistant coach from 2011 to 2014. Overall, he has been linked to eight NBL championships and led Nymburk to back-to-back appearances in the Final Eight of the Basketball Champions League in 2020 and 2021.
“I already thought back then that it wasn’t goodbye forever, but just a see you later,” he mentioned, “My family life has changed a lot in the last four years, and we decided to settle down a bit. So when the offer to return to Nymburk arrived, we received it as a great opportunity. I’m thrilled to be back.”
Upon reuniting with several familiar players at Nymburk, the 2025-26 campaign is expected to combine domestic and regional competitions with another continental journey in the BCL.
