A new record is registered by the number of NBA players competing in the FIBA World Cup

While some notable NBA international stars are missing the World Cup, in total 55 NBA players are competing in the 2023 edition, registering a new record.

Per the press release: The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 will set a new benchmark before it even begins as a record-breaking 55 NBA players will be playing in the competition from August 25 to September 10.

The 55 players from 20 different countries eclipse the record of 54 players from 17 countries at the 2019 World Cup. There were 45 NBA players at the 2014 World Cup in Spain.

USA team features a tournament-high 12 NBA players while Australia have nine current NBA players; Canada will field seven NBA players; Germany have four players and France and Serbia both have three current NBA players on their squad.

24 NBA franchises are represented at the 2023 World Cup. Four NBA teams have five players on rosters for World Cup national teams: Minnesota Timberwolves, Orland Magic, Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz.

National team rosters include ten former NBA All-Stars: Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks, Slovenia), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves; USA), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder; Canada), Rudy Gobert (Minnesota Timberwolves; France), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers; USA), Brandon Ingram (New Orleans Pelicans; USA), Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies; USA), Lauri Markkanen (Utah Jazz; Finland), Karl-Anthony Towns (Minnesota Timberwolves; Dominican Republic) and Nikola Vucevic (Chicago Bulls; Montenegro).

Jared Jackson Jr was also selected as 2023 NBA Defensive Player of the Year and Paolo Banchero (Orlando Magic; USA) received the 2023 NBA Rookie of the Year Award.
