Mario Chalmers was a guest of Dwight Howard on the podcast Above The Rim with DH 12. ’
The discussion naturally went into playing alongside LeBron James at the Miami Heat. The two-time NBA champion has been vocal about his relationship with his former teammate through recent years but on this occasion was asked about a story of cookies being stolen from LeBron.
“I ain’t never seen a grown man turn up over some cookies like that before,” he shared about the approach to the incident by the current player of the Los Angeles Lakers.
“This man used to get on the plane with two bowls of chocolate chip cookies, with eight in each one. He’d get two scoops of ice cream from the back and tear that junk up,” he described the routine with Howard and others bursting out laughing.
“Boy, when they took that,” he continued while attempting to recreate the moment by emulating LeBron’s reaction, “I ain’t never want to see him mad like that.”
“We’re on a 27-game winning streak,” pointed out the former Kansas standout and NCAA champion in 2008.
Overseas experience
Chalmers, 38, opened up on several additional topics, including the differences between playing in the NBA and overseas.
“I enjoyed playing overseas a little bit, but when you are used to get paid first and 15th, used to five-star stuff, everything being nice, and you go over there, it’s kind of… I’m peeing on the floor, I’m sharing a room, my money is a month late,” he said.
Following 745 NBA games between the Heat and the Memphis Grizzlies, he expanded his career to Italy via Virtus Segafredo Bologna for the 2018-19 season and won the Basketball Champions League. He went on to play in Greece with AEK and Aris over the next two years.
