Following his historic 83-point explosion, Bam Adebayo was asked what the late Kobe Bryant, whose 81-point mark he just surpassed, would have told him

In a performance that rewrote the NBA record books, Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo scored a staggering 83 points on Tuesday night at the Kaseya Center, lifting his team over the Washington Wizards. The historic feat moved the 28-year-old center past Kobe Bryant’s legendary 81-point mark, placing him second all-time behind only Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game.

The gravity of the milestone was not lost on Adebayo, who reflected on his evolution from a defensive specialist to a scoring titan. “I came into this league as a defender and a lob threat,” Adebayo said during a postgame press conference where he appeared alongside his partner, WNBA superstar A’ja Wilson. “I really got emotional. It didn’t hit me until I hugged her, and then I hugged my mom.”

Adebayo admitted that seeing his name alongside the sport’s greatest icons felt like a dream. “This is a special moment. Wilt, me, then Kobe, which sounds crazy,” he mentioned. The achievement sparked a bittersweet reflection on the late Kobe Bryant, whom Adebayo grew up idolizing. When asked about passing the Los Angeles Lakers legend, Adebayo wondered how Bryant would have reacted to the news.

“To me, it’s wondering what he would say seeing somebody be 83 and you pass him,” he said. “In my mind, it’s like what would he say to me. Because I always wanted to have a conversation with him, but he would probably say to me, ‘Do it again’. Just a surreal moment, being in the company with somebody you idolized growing up.”
