Luka Doncic is heading back to America to start a new chapter with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to the initial schedule, but leaving home isn’t easy.
Before boarding his flight to California, the 27-year-old playmaker posted a message on social media for his daughters, Gabriela and Olivia.
“No matter where in the world your Dad is, there is not a day you are not in my heart,” he wrote. “Wherever I go, they are always with me. I love you both!”

It has been a heavy year for the family. Following his separation from his ex-fiancee, Anamaria Goltes, who filed a child support petition, he continues to share child custody, although the kids live in Slovenia.
On the court, Doncic is resetting. Coming through a long break from competition, over 200 days and the longest of his career, after a hamstring tear forced him to sit out the bottom end of the 2025–26 campaign with the Lakers and his summer duties with the senior national team of Slovenia in the FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
He spent these months in Europe undergoing intensive rehab. Now, he is healthy, in shape, and ready to be the main focal point for head coach JJ Redick. To get a head start on team chemistry, the six-time All-Star hosted a four-day minicamp for the Lakers roster in his hometown of Ljubljana. They spent time scrimmaging and hanging out on his childhood courts before official training camp opens in late September.
Doncic has also been busy co-founding BC Roma, an Italian club initially named Roma SPQR. He even helped them recruit talent for their BKT EuroCup and LBA UnipolSai journeys.
Still, his main focus is strictly on the Lakers. With a roster built around his passing and a healthier frame, he is aiming to turn a complicated summer into a championship run.
