Hoping for more from beyond the arc, 27-year-old Neemias Queta enjoys celebrating a make of his own for once

Boston Celtics center Neemias Queta is working to expand his offensive range, reflecting on his progress after Sunday’s practice ahead of a back-to-back stretch in the 2026–27 NBA Regular Season.

The corner triple against the New York Knicks on Friday was his first conversion of the young season. It marked a distinct step forward for the 7-foot big, who finished the entire previous campaign shooting just 1-of-8 from deep.

“Really good,” the 27-year-old center responded when asked how it felt to connect. “Used to being on the bench and guys celebrating in front of you, so getting to do that in front of them too for once is pretty nice, and hopefully I get more.”

The former champion and first Portuguese player in league history previously discussed stretching the floor during training camp, but he remains grounded.

“It’s just one. It’s a game of makes and misses,” Queta said. “Can’t really get too happy about one, like I wouldn’t be too down about a bunch of misses too. Good to see one going in, but tomorrow there’s another game. That’s, that’s what I’m focused on.”

Perimeter shooting isn’t entirely new to him, tracing back to his early playing days.

“Back in the day, back in Portugal, I used to do that too,” he explained. “It’s something I’m comfortable doing. It’s not that new for me, but I think it’s just getting unrusty at it. Figure out the right moments to shoot, figuring out whether it’s better options coming up, whether some more action that we can get into on the backside and stuff like that.”

The C’s sit at 1–1, tied for eighth in the Eastern Conference. They host the Chicago Bulls on Monday and the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday at TD Garden.

Queta leads a European group on the roster that includes Luka Garza, Hugo Gonzalez, and Amari Williams.
