Sacramento Kings guard Bogdan Bogdanovic has been offered the maximum contract extension available to him but he’s not exactly in a hurry to sign it.

One reason has to do with the fact that Bogdanovic can get a more lucrative contract once he hits the 2020 offseason as a restricted free agent. The other is that being a reserve with the Kings isn’t far from an exciting prospect for the 26-year-old Serbian guard as ESPN’s Tim MacMahon and Brian Windhorst report.

“I’m sure I’ve heard some of the same rumblings as you of, hey, if they’re locked into Hield and Barnes – Bogdanovic, he might not be thrilled with being the sixth man there,” McMahon said. “That is exactly what I’m hearing,” Windhorst added.

Bogdanovic, a former All-EuroLeague First Team selection and champion with Fenerbahce Beko, is currently in the third year of his contract with Sacramento. He averaged 14.1 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds in 27.8 minutes over 70 games in 2018-2019.

The Kings recently reached an agreement with guard Buddy Hield on a four-year, 94 million contract extension, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal was struck some days after Hield commented on an initial offer as being an “insult”.
